Two people accused of assaulting elderly man in New London

NEW LONDON – Police responded to the report of an active robbery and assault of an elderly male on Tilley Street near Starr Street.  Concerned citizens followed the suspects, one male and one female, and were able to provide officers who arrived on scene with descriptions and direction of travel.

The male suspect, Patrick Barton, 24, of New London, was caught after a brief foot chase on Broad Street, while the female suspect, Danielle Bentacourt, 28, of New London, was caught on Franklin Street.

Bentacourt was charged with Robbery in the 3rd degree and Larceny in the 6th degree, and is being held on a $100,000 bond, while Barton was charged with Robbery in the 3rd degree, Assault of an Elderly, Disabled, Pregnant, or Intellectually Disabled Person in the 3rd Degree, and is being held on a $200,000 bond.

The victim, suffering from facial injuries from the assault, was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

New London Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
