NEW HAVEN--A local nurse, who stood up for racial equality in the field of nursing is the focus of this week's Hidden History.

Photojournalist Mike Townsend took a trip to the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame to learn about Martha Minerva Franklin, a Milford-born nursing graduate who worked in a field dominated by white women. She wasn't content with her surroundings and the lack of opportunity she and her peers faced, so she founded what is now the International Association for Black Nurses.
