NEWINGTON–A man has been arrested after a baby was found with bruising at the hospital.

Tyler Francis Maia, 21, of Newington, was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of assault in the third degree. He is being held on a $75,000 bond and is due in court on February 23.

The investigation began on Thursday after a 4-week-old showed up at a hospital with bruising that was indicative of a possible assault. The investigation revealed that Maia, who is the baby’s father, had harmed the baby girl on two occasions in the past week after he was frustrated with her and handled her forcefully.
