WEST HARTFORD - A series of skirmishes broke out during the final seconds of a highly anticipated basketball game between Conard and Hall High schools Monday night.

A last-second layup for Hall put them one point over and students stormed the court.

During the celebrations, some people in the crowd took it upon themselves to punch other players and students, sparking a series of skirmishes that were captured on camera.

"It's just sad because it holds up the schools in a way that doesn't do them justice," said Tom Moore, Superintendent of West Hartford Public Schools. "The kids have dishonored their schools, if they're wearing the uniform, they're dishonoring the uniform, and they really brought disrespect to the town I'm deeply disappointed in them."

Right now West Hartford Police are looking into who started the fights and will discipline those responsible.

One of the coaches says the incident occurred because Hall students thought the game was over even though around two seconds still remained on the clock.

Although the referee had called a time out, the final buzzer went off. That's when Hall students rushed the court to celebrate their win. The team was extra energized because it was the home team’s senior night and the last game of the season.

Video posted to Twitter showed the students on the court. The two schools are cross-town rivals.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact West Hartford Police.
