MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Wesleyan University’s problems with the party drug Molly didn’t begin with this weekend’s apparent overdoses that sickened at least 12 people.
School health officials sent an email to the university community on Sept. 16, noting that students had been hospitalized over the two previous weekends after taking the drug.
The school posted information about the drug on its webpage and asked students to visit its health center if they had any questions or concerns.
University spokeswoman Lauren Rubenstein said Monday she had no information about those incidents.
Eight people remained hospitalized Monday after taking what was purported to be Molly, also known as MDMA, over the weekend. The drug, a refined form of Ecstasy, can drive up body temperature and cause liver, kidney or cardiovascular failure.
