In today’s health news, surgeries are important procedures – so you’d think a more experienced surgeon would mean a safer procedure. However, a new study suggests otherwise.
University of Pennsylvania researchers compiled surgical statistics for more than 130,000 patients over two years, and they found that new surgeons have the same mortality rate for patients as those who have been in the field for decades – about 3% for both elective surgery and emergency surgery.
