Sisson Avenue reopens after large water main break
HARTFORD–A large water main break on Sisson Avenue caused the I-84 exit 46 on and off ramps to be shut down, as well as Sisson Avenue between Capitol Avenue and Warrenton Avenue for several hours.
According to Hartford Police Deputy Chief Brian Foley, two feet of water flooded Sisson Avenue, but some of it receded a short time later. MDC, Hartford Police and the Deparment of Public Works all responded, and the area is expected to be impacted throughout the weekend.
MDC says they shut water off to fix the 12-inch break around 9:20 p.m. The only building without water is the Sisson Avenue Hartford Fire house. Crews fully restored water service at 4:45 a.m.
Foley also tweeted that the water was reaching basements nearby, including the basement for the fire house, which was evacuated and the trucks are being moved down the street.
While on scene, a driver of another car crashed into a police cruiser that had responded to the water main break.
No one was hurt, but police are investigating the crash as a DUI.
