HARTFORD – Fans of Carly Rae Jepsen’s debut single “Call Me Maybe” were eager to hear her next big release, “I Really Like You.”  They all either really really liked it, or really really hated it.

The music video to the new single was released on Friday, March 6 and had a very surprising beginning: Tom Hanks, clad in a light blue pajama suit, rolling out of bed and lip syncing the opening lines of the song.  He continues in this vein, cleaning up in front of the bathroom mirror and then sauntering down the street in a dandy light brown pea coat and high-fiving the different people he passes on the street.

He reaches his destination and ends up sitting across from Jepsen in director’s chairs, still lip-syncing the words of her song, to  her.

Then, quite suddenly, it’s dark outside, and the duo are engaged in an 80s-type dance number with a bunch of background dancers  and Tom Hanks displays some surprisingly spry dance moves.

And then, even more suddenly, Justin Bieber appears to dance, as well.

How did this happen?  Well, apparently, Jepsen and Hanks met at the wedding of Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun last year. “Scooter was telling the story [of the video] to Tom over dinner, and Tom apparently said ‘Why not me? Why didn’t you ask me?” Jepsen told Access Hollywood. “I got a call three days before Christmas from Scoots being like ‘Do you think Tom Hanks would do?'”

He did, indeed, do.
