Two animals rescued as barn collapses on them during fire in Columbia

COLUMBIA — Several crews responded to a 2-alarm barn fire on 11 Cards Mill Road Monday. It started just after 4:30 a.m. Willimantic, Lebanon, Hebron, UConn, Columbia, Colchester, and Bolton all responded.

State Police closed the road while firefighters fought the blaze. Fire officials say a sheep and a lamb became trapped in a corner of the barn, but they were able to rescue them safely.

No word on what caused the fire.
