I-691E reopens in Cheshire after fatal accident

ax cheshireCHESHIRE–An accident left one dead and shut down I-691 east in Cheshire for about five hours on Monday afternoon. The three-vehicle accident occurred just after 4 p.m.

Eugene Tourangeau, 65, of Waterbury was killed when the car the 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass he driving was sandwiched between two sedans.

All three vehicles were driving east on I-691 in the right lane of the two-lane highway, and traffic was congested ahead of them. The third vehicle crashed into the back of the second vehicle–which was being driven by Tourangeau–and Tourangeau’s car then crashed into the car in front of him.

The drivers of the other two hospitals were taken to the hospital for injuries.
