The Grand Marshal of the 2015 Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Tim Gallogly, stopped by the Fox CT Morning Extra to talk about his upcoming role. The distinguishing characteristic of the Grand Marshal of the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade is that the position of Grand Marshal is not an honorary role, it is an earned title. It takes many years to be recognized and elected by the Executive Committee, that consists of all of the former Grand Marshals.

Gallogly is the third generation of his family to dedicate efforts to the New Haven parade. His grandfather, William Gallogly, Sr. is Irish Parade Royalty in New Haven as he was responsible for the rejuvenation of the parade in 1956.

Parade Chairman Colleen Hines also spoke about her earned position. The job of Chairman is all-consuming. Hines has her alma mater providing the 300,000 spectators with a marching unit this year.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is an all-volunteer committee whose members work 12 months a year to present the 6th oldest parade in our country’s history. It requires a great deal of funds to continue this grand tradition.
