HARTFORD – Get all of the Fish Mooney you can on Gotham this season, because Jada Pinkett Smith is leaving after the season finale.  There has been some serious speculation as to why, but all she would say in response to questions was “I signed for a year and the year is up” and “I did my year and I had a good time.”

There doesn’t appear to be any bad blood or ill will associated with this, as she went on to say “But there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There’s a lot of good stuff coming.”

Fans of Batman know that Fish Mooney could never be a long-standing character, as she was created specifically for Gotham by series creator Bruno Heller.  Not to mention, her long-standing war with Oswald Cobblepot could only end with her demise, since we already know Penguin is a significant Batman character. Plus, penguins eat fish.

Fish’s departure may even have something to do with her gouging her eye out in one of the previous episodes, although anyone who watches Gotham knows that she’s not going down without a fight.  In an interview with Extra, Jada Pinkett Smith alluded to a potential shocker surrounding her character’s eventual departure, “You never know what Fish might have up her sleeve.”
