HAMDEN – Marijuana legalization has gained popularity around the country, according to recent polls, and closer to home, locals appear to be onboard too.

The majority of Connecticut voters say adults should be legally allowed to possess small amount of marijuana for personal use, according to a Quinnipiac Poll released Wednesday.

Voters support legalization 63 percent – 34 percent, the poll says.

Sixty-seven percent of voters support reducing the penalties for possessing illegal drugs from a felony to a misdemeanor, it says.

Also, 82 percent of voters support the elimination of mandatory minimum sentences for possession of small amounts of illegal drugs, and allowing judges to decide sentences on a case by case basis.
