Husky heartbreak: SMU defeats UConn 62-54 in AAC title game

The UConn Huskies won’t be going to another NCAA tournament.

They had to win four games in four days to capture this tournament and trip to the NCAA Tournament.

They came close, winning three, including dramatic wins over Cincinnati and Tulsa, but could not match the SMU Mustangs.  SMU dominated the first half and built a 17-point lead before the Huskies, with one last flurry, cut that lead down to five points with just over 3 minutes to play.

But, it’s not all bad news.

Guards Ryan Boatright and Rodney Purvis have both been named to the American Men’s Basketball All-Tournament Team.
