HAMDEN–Around noon on Friday Hamden Police responded to a home on reports of a dog bite.

According to police, the homeowner’s adult male pit bull started biting one of the puppies also living in the house. When the homeowner tried to separate the dogs, the pit bull attacked her.

When the pit bull attacked the woman, her husband worked to coax the dog away from the fight, but the dog attacked him.

The pit bull then broke through a security gate and attacked the male homeowner again, leading him to grab a knife and stab the dog to stop the attack.

Animal Control responded to the scene and captured the dog. Both victims were treated and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
