HARTFORD-- Police are investigating a fatal shooting at 17 Benton Street.
According to Deputy Chief Brian Foley, a 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen around 6 p.m. As of 7:30 he was in critical condition at Hartford Hospital, but he died some time around 8 p.m.
Police say they found the man alert and conscious in the multifamily home and were able to get some information about who the suspect may be.
This is the city's sixth homicide of 2015 and its third in a week.
Initially it was reported that the victim was shot in the hip and the injuries weren't life-threatening, but the emergency department doctors told police his injuries are considered life threatening.
The Major Crimes Division, homicide, crime scene and shooting task force were all still at the scene of the crime three hours after the shooting and well into the night.
