WASHINGTON–A milestone was recently hit for the TSA Pre-check program.

More than 1 million travelers enrolled in the program.

TSA Pre-check began in October 2011. It expedites the screening process at airports to let low-risk travelers enjoy an easier process. At 133 participating airports, qualifying members can go through security with their light coats, shoes and belts on, and don’t have to take laptops or liquids and gels out of their carry-on bags.

The application program began December 2013 so that U.S. citizens and permanent residents can apply and get a “known traveler number.” That number allows the passenger to go through the relaxed security program on 11 airlines–Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

“The continued growth and passenger participation in TSA Pre✓® affirms our commitment to the evolution of our intelligence-driven, risk-based approach to aviation security,” said TSA acting administrator Melvin Carraway.
