GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Believe it or not, teens across the country are already preparing for prom, and in one Pennsylvania town there is already some prom dress drama.

Delone Catholic High School in Adams County, near Gettysburg, is requiring students to submit photos of their prom dresses in advance for dress code approval.

Parents say students weren’t told about the photo rule until last week, and many girls have already bought their dresses, and can’t return them.

“They’re frantic, more so the parents have been really frantic, calling me with, ‘Please, please please would you exchange her dress it’s not allowed,” dress shop owner Simone Hostetter told WPMT. Her store is allowing last-minute returns.

The issue to lie with mesh and nude-colored lining that makes the dress appear see-through. It’s apparently all the rage this season, along with “plunging necklines,” according to David’s Bridal.

Hundreds of parents and students have signed an change.org petition, urging the school to change the rules. The petition received 255 supporters of its 500-signature goal. As of Wednesday morning the petition was closed; it is unclear why.

Prom dresses can cost between $300 and $600.

The school’s prom is on May 1.
