WEST HARTFORD--Jewish people around the world are preparing for Passover, which begins at sundown at Friday.

The Chabad House of Greater Hartford, which is located in West Hartford, is working hard to provide a big dinner and seder for the whole Jewish community.

"God sent Moses to the pharaoh to say 'let my people go.' After 10 plagues he let them go -- and that's really the birth of the Jewish nation, when we were first free people," said Rabbi Shaya Gopin, of the Chabad House.

That's the basic history behind Passover, and now thousands of years later Jewish people are prepping to remember their past.

The Chabad House will host seders around the state so that no Jews will have to miss out on one of the most important dinners of the year.

"People come because they're away from family, or not near family, or they just want to be with someone who is observing the Passover seder -- they want to do it with the rabbi, or a larger group," Gopin said.

In all, the Chabad House is hosting seven catered seder dinners, including one in Russian in Hartford. These satellite celebrations have been going on for 37 years, and each year they get bigger.
