CARPINTERIA, CA- Why mess with perfection when delicious, greasy, crispy, salty french fries have already achieved it? Carl’s Jr, the popular fast food chain in the West and the South, have come up with an even more beautiful food hybrid creation, pizza fries. Yes, pizza and french fries combined. USA Today is reporting that Carl’s Jr is testing the new product in a dozen locations, mostly in Southern California.
“It may look like a mess — but it’s messy good,” says Brad Haley, chief marketing officer at Carl’s Jr. Customers have compared the taste, he says, to pizza with a French fry crust. (Which also sounds delicious, no?)
So what goes into the creation? Fries (natural cut with the skin on), pepperoni, pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. The price: $2.39 for one order, and calories? Unknown at this time.
Loaded fries is not a new concept, as Carl’s Jr has tried several different types in the past, including gravy fries, chili cheese fries, bacon cheddar fries and bacon ranch fries.
“It’s not new to us to do this kind of thing,” Haley says. However, this is not to be mistaken for an attempt to take over the pizza world. “The chain is focused on indulgent burgers”, he says. “Pizza is not part of our brand character – but pizza fries go great with burgers.”
