HARTFORD – Fans of the 1975 cross-dressing cult classic will be thrilled to discover that FOX is bringing the sci-fi satirical musical to the small screen.

Unlike NBC’s Peter Pan LIVE! and FOX’s upcoming Grease, this remake will not be live, but will be a two-part event series, directed, produced, and choreographed by three-time Emmy winner Kenny Ortega (Michael Jackson’s This Is It, High School Musical, Dirty Dancing) and overseen by the original film producer, Lou Adler.

In addition, die-hard fans will notice that no new writer will be credited, as FOX will be sticking to the text of the original 1973 play by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien.

Tentatively titled The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, the project is coming just in time for the original film’s 40th anniversary on August 14th, where it amassed $139.9M at the box office.

Fans should also note that this project is casting-contingent, and will not take off if producers cannot find the perfect cast to fill the shoes of Tim Curry (Dr. Frank N. Furter), Susan Sarandon (Janet), Barry Bostwick (Brad), Richard O’Brien (Riff Raff), and Peter Hinwood (Rocky Horror).
