Explosions, flames, sirens wake up neighbors in Southington

SOUTHINGTON -- A large fire broke out at a house on Mount Vernon Road early Thursday morning.

The  fire was first called in as a garage fire but by the time firefighters got to the scene the fire spread and the house was fully involved.

Two people were inside the home at the time but managed to get out safely. They are being helped by Southington Community Services.

Firefighters will remain on scene all morning to make sure the fire does not flare up.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
