MERIDEN – An investigation is underway after the Meriden Humane Society was vandalized sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning. An employee for the Humane Society discovered the vandalism Thursday morning.

meriden humane 2Heather Sullivan says there is about $2,000 in theft and vandalism. Some of the animal cages were stolen, others were damaged.

The site does have surveillance cameras but they didn’t capture what happened.  Sullivan thinks it’s possible the suspects knew how the cameras worked and entered the property from a nearby road.

Sullivan says the vandalism happened sometime between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. The damage was done to the exterior shelter property where they keep some of the dogs.

Three dog cages are missing, several others were turned over, and the grass is torn up.meriden humane 3

Sullivan says the Humane Society insurance won’t cover the cost of the damage.

Thankfully, no animals were in the cages at the time, no injuries or stolen animals.

A police report has been filed with Meriden Police.
