Shoppers may soon have a tool to tell them whether food in the grocery store or their refrigerator is safe to eat.

M.I.T. chemists developed this portable sensor that can detect gases emitted by rotting meat.

The sensor is made of chemically modified nanotubes that are so tiny they can be incorporated into packaging.  The smart packaging would offer more than just the expiration date but a clear indication of whether the food has gone bad.  Since the device is so small, scientists are thinking of a way to make the sensors work with a smartphone.

A new brand of beer claims to be the fountain of youth for your skin.  It’s called Precious Beer, and was created by a liquor company in Japan.

It contains two grams of collagen per can, which is supposed to make your skin firmer and look more youthful.   Collagen is a protein found in skin that gives it structure and firmness, and we lose collagen as we age.

Collagen supplements are not new, but experts still disagree over how effective it is when consumed in pills or drinks.
