According to state Rep. Brandon McGee three apartment buildings were involved. Officials say 24 families made up of 44 adults and 26 children were displaced.

The victims are taking refuge in the Parker Memorial Community Center, and local church organizations are helping out. Also, the city of Hartford has booked 50 hotel rooms for the victims, and nurses are on scene to help care for anyone with minor injuries.

Upwards of 72 firefighters fought through thick smoke that enveloped the area.
