Treizy Lopez, 18, had been on the run since the shooting. He was arrested in West Haven Monday morning, Police say Lopez’s arrest took the work of Bridgeport detectives, West Haven Police, and Connecticut State Police.
His alleged accomplice Leighton Vanderberg, 22, was arrested in New Haven last week and charged in connection with the shooting. Vanderberg admitted to being involved in homicides in both New Haven in Bridgeport, he says he was not the trigger man.
Vanderberg says he and Lopez entered Sapiao’s Grocery and that it was Lopez who pulled the trigger, fatally shooting Salgado in the neck. Vanderberg claimed he was running out of the store before Lopez shot Salgado.
Last week, Vanderberg told New Haven police detectives, who were speaking to him about another matter, that the image of the homicide victim’s wife, from the Bridgeport shooting was weighing heavy on him and he wanted to get it off his chest.
Lopez will be arraigned on Tuesday.
