HARTFORD -- Five Big Brothers and Big Sisters were honored Tuesday evening in Hartford for the annual Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters of the year awards ceremony.

It was held at the Mark Twain House and Museum.

Our own Fox Connecticut’s Crystal Hall served as co-emcee alongside Ryan Matthews with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Receiving awards were: Carrie Roulhac of Bloomfield (Foster Grandparent of the Year Award); Pete Eason of Waterbury (Connecticut’s Big Brother of the Year Award); Karen Perham-Lippman of Vernon (2015 Connecticut Big Sister of the Year Award); Dwight Washington of Bloomfield (John M. Clapp Outstanding Big Brother of the Year Award) and Evelyn Rojas of Hartford. Evelyn is the recipient of the 2015 Victoria L. Soto Memorial Award. She earned the recognition for the amazing work she’s accomplished as a mentor in Nutmeg’s community-based program.

Based in Hartford, Nutmeg was founded in 1966. It’s funded, in part, by United Way organizations. It serves thousands of youngsters in 132 of the state’s 169 municipalities. For more on Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, click here.
