HARTFORD - Emergency crews responded to a fire on Cleveland Avenue Thursday morning - the latest in a number of suspicious fires.

The call came in at 11:10 a.m. and the house is located in a residential area.

Smoke could be seen from downtown.

Captain Helene Lynch of the Hartford Fire Department said they have had a rash of suspicious fires.

She said she has asked the Fire Marshal to put together some statistics on how many arsons they are actively investigating.

She  said that the city is working with residents on fire safety and fire prevention and in the next couple of weeks community meetings will be held.

Lynch said they’re averaging about a fire a day.

"We've been too busy,” she said.
