HARTFORD–After five weeks of operation, CTFastrak Bus rapid Transit system has surpassed 150,000 rides on the bus-only roadway routes.

The new transportation system launched on March 28, and now sees 7,000 riders per day on the bus-only roadways. Those riders are in addition to the 7,000 who use CTTransit buses daily.

Here’s a statement from Gov. Dan Malloy:

The early indicators of success of CTfastrak indicate that Connecticut residents are clamoring for a best-in-class transportation system now and in the long-term.  People are embracing new ways to travel, and a renewed focus on improving our transportation system is good for businesses and residents.

Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker said that before it launched, it was projected that CTFastrak would have a minimum of 11,200 daily rides within the first year of service. However, Redeker said the service is already seeing 14,000 daily rides after just five weeks.

The CTFastrak Express route, which operates within the city of Hartford but not on the designated fastrak roadway, increased its ridership from 9,000 in March to 13,000 in April.

The service operates within Waterbury, Cheshire, Southington, Bristol, Plainville, New Britain, Newington, West Hartford, Hartford, East Hartford and Manchester.
