DERBY–Griffin Hospital is offering free screenings for skin cancer.

In honor of skin cancer awareness month, which takes place every May, the hospital will offer free facial skin cancer screenings, as well as a talk about how to stay safe from the sun. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 21, at the hospital’s Meditation and Learning Center, which is located at 130 Division St.

The screenings will occur from 5 to 6 p.m. and will be conducted by nurses from the hospitals Community Outreach and Parish Nurses Program. You must register ahead of time by calling 203-732-1511, and it’s first-come, first-served. More screenings may be held after the talk, but that is not guaranteed.

After the screenings the talk will be held by plastic surgeon and skin cancer prevention activist Dr. John F. Reilly. The talk is open to all and doesn’t require registration.
