NEW BRITAIN - Saturday, May 9th kicked off the 12th annual Race in the Park, courtesy of the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative (CTBHI).   The race, which took place through Walnut Hill Park, is a tradition that gives thousands of breast cancer survivors and their loved ones the opportunity to support funding for Connecticut breast cancer research.

“100% of the funds raised in Connecticut stay in Connecticut” said Joyce Bray, Executive Director of CTBHI. “This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we’re able to work directly with researches that are normally on a long waiting list to receive funding.”

Based solely on sponsorships, this year's race raised almost $200,000.  To date, CT/BHI has awarded over 2.3 million dollars for Connecticut research and already has over $700,000 in project proposals for this year.

This year's on-site activities included a kids expo, survivor's breakfast, mini-spa service, a silent auction, a raffle, and food trucks.  The Honorary Chairs were Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, Sports Analyst and UCONN Champion Rebecca Lobo, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart and Honorary Youth Chair Jess Rivard.
