FRADIANI KENNEDY

HARTFORD — Connecticut lawmakers are paying tribute to Guilford resident Nick Fradiani for winning the “American Idol” singing contest.

State Sen. Ted Kennedy Jr., whose district includes Guilford, led the Senate on Thursday in officially recognizing the 29-year-old vocalist, who was born in East Haven. Kennedy said everyone on the Connecticut shoreline and statewide should have pride “in this incredible young man and the career that lies ahead of him.”

Fradiani won the 14th season of the Fox TV competition Wednesday night.

Fradiani wasn’t present at the state Capitol on Thursday. However, Kennedy urged his colleagues to still send “a great Connecticut thank you and recognition for our young friend Nick Fradiani.”

About 4,000 people turned out in Guilford on May 1 to welcome Fradiani when he came home to visit.
