CHAPLIN – After months of investigating, State Police Troop D have arrested Chaplin’s former tax collector. Lynn Sembor, 59, of East Windsor is accused of embezzling money from the town.
In September 2014, the town of Chaplin suspected fraudulent activity in the transactions and documentation of taxes collected by Sembor. A forensic audit into the tax records confirmed that there were discrepancies with the tax records and how the tax payments were being documented. Sembor was interviewed and confessed to taking money from the tax payments that were made in cash and then replacing it with other tax payments as they came in.
Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sembor turned herself in to Troop D in Danielson on the active arrest warrant where she was placed under arrest and processed.
She was held on $10,000 bond and is due in court on June 3.
