DANIELSON–In events across the state today veterans were honored.

First, students at a New Britain elementary school celebrated the money they raised for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Also, a WWII veteran received some very over-do recognition. Reginald Morin, 89, was presented with his medals from his time in the U.S. Navy.

Morin says his daughter contacted Rep. Joe Courtney about getting him the medals he earned.

And in New Britain and East Hartford, vets got help to complete some much needed home repairs.

Stanley Tools teamed up with House of Heroes to help renovate the homes.

Harold Grimes, a Navy vet, said, "Personally, I thought some guy was gonna come out with a hammer and a toolbox and fix a few little things, and that would be it." Instead, Grimes was pleasantly surprised to receive new railings, a fence, a shed and his bushes removed.

House of Heroes provides repairs and renovations to disabled vets' homes at no cost if the vet is living on a fixed income or has physical and financial challenges.
