HARTFORD — Uber is putting some pressure on the Connecticut Senate to pass a House bill that would create new regulations for the ride-share service, and let the company continue operations.

Uber emailed Connecticut customers on Tuesday, asking them to contact their local senator to push for the bill’s passage.

The letter reads:

The Connecticut House of Representatives has been making great progress for our state and recently passed a bill that welcomes innovative companies like Uber statewide—but now, that is all being threatened by the Senate. We need our Senators to vote for the House version of the bill today to ensure that Uber can stay in Connecticut.
We need your help now.

Tell your Senator to stand up for you and vote “yes” on the House-passed version of the bill.

The Senate could vote at any moment. Make your voice heard now. Don’t let the Senate make any last-minute changes and take away your access to a safe and reliable ride.

Thank you for your help in ensuring that Uber can stay in Connecticut,

Team Uber Connecticut

Livery services like Uber and Lyft have been the topic of heated debate at the Capitol in the last year. Many Connecticut taxi companies have expressed concerns, saying that the unregulated Uber puts Connecticut customers at risk and is unfair.

The bill would also require Uber to run background checks on drivers.
