HARTFORD–The capital city is getting a VIP visitor this weekend after weeks of violence.

The Rev. Al Sharpton is coming to Hartford on Saturday to join pastors and community leaders in a rally calling for peace.

In just two weeks five people were killed in the city; so far this year that number is 12.

Pastor David Massey, of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Windsor, said, “We have come together to show that there is unity in our community. And we want to gather now as our community and show our strength as citizens supporting each other and our community.”

The “Stop the Violence and Cease the Killing March and Action Rally” will be held at  3 p.m. starting at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church on Barbour Street. Community members will walk through the North End, and the rally will end at the Shiloh Baptist Church on Albany Avenue.

Al Sharpton will speak immediately following the march.
