Art about body shaming allowed at Glastonbury High School show after appeal

GLASTONBURY — Glastonbury High School has reversed a decision to keep a student’s artwork about body shaming out of the school’s art show.

Senior Emily Mann tells the Hartford Courant she was devastated when told her work would not be allowed in the exhibit at Glastonbury High School.

Mann appealed and school Superintendent Alan Bookman Wednesday overturned the principal’s decision and added the piece to the exhibit.

The art involves a painting of a naked woman with strategically placed red boxes containing words such as “pornographic” and “sinful.” It also includes the messages “Don’t teach women how to dress, teach men how to behave” and “There’s nothing shameful about your body.”
