BRIDGEPORT--The father of two children who tragically died in a gas leak in their East Haven home earlier this week is speaking out on his loss.
Michael Moore is grieving the loss of his son Daaron, 7, and his daughter Aleisha, 6, just two days after the children were found dead by officers responding to a medical call.
"Daaron is my only son you know a fun loving 8-year-old boy. He just love life to the fullest," Moore said. Daaron was 7 when he died, but he would have turned 8 at the end of June.
Of his daughter, Moore added, "To everything she did she excelled in. She was very wise beyond her years. And in talking to Aleisha, it would be just like standing here talking to me or another adult."
Moore, who lives in Bridgeport, refused to comment on his ex-wife, who survived the incident, beyond saying, "For whatever East Haven Police is doing, they are doing what they're supposed to. I'm going to continue letting them do what they're supposed to."
Leroya Moore, 36, is the owner of 541 Strong St. in East Haven, where the incident occurred. According to a 911 call released on Wednesday that was made by Leroya's friend, she had been threatening to hurt herself and said she had cuts on her arms. When police responded to the call they found the children dead and Leroya "despondent" with injuries on her arms.
While police won't say officially if this was a gas leak or if the gas was intentionally broken, East Haven Police Chief said based on his observation it appeared the gas had been turned on.
Michael and Leroya are divorced, and after the two separated the children moved with their mother to the East Haven home last year. But Michael said that whenever he got to spend time with his little ones, he wanted to make them happy. "I always promised to do right by them. And [told them] that daddy wants to make you smile at least one more time before you go home" to their mother's house.
