DARIEN–Four Philadelphia men were arrested on Thursday for attempting to steal Range Rovers from a dealership.

Three of the men drove up in a black 2001 Mercedes E320 with a Pennsylvania license plate, and parked behind a restaurant located at 54 Post Rd. A fourth man emerged from the woods near the Land Rover dealership and met up with the others.

The suspects appeared to have cut an access hole in the dealership’s fence.

They attempted to steal three new Range Rovers, which were valued at more than $150,000.

Victor Strong, 36, Anwar Carter, 34, Ernest Smith, 35, and Jisceton Cobb, 18, were arrested on the scene. All four were charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree and possession of burglar tools.

Strong, Smith and Carter are all convicts who are on parole and have extensive criminal histories, including murder and assault. They remain in Darien Police’s custody and are being held without bond. They will be arraigned in Stamford on Friday.

Cobb was released on a promise to appear in court later this month.

In January, two Range Rovers were stolen from the same dealership, and in March a set of wheels was taken and a hole was found in the fence. The investigation into those crimes is ongoing.
