STAMFORD -- Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio addressed a packed ballroom at the Stamford Crowne Plaza Thursday night. Rubio was the keynote speaker at the 37th annual Prescott Bush Awards dinner,

The event is one of the largest fundraisers for the CT Republican Party and ticket prices ran as high at $5,000.

Rubio addressed the crowd with a campaign style speech, talking about broad issues ranging from education to jobs and taxes. Rubio didn't specifically mention Connecticut politics or state issues.

"The time has come for a new generation of leaders to guide us in our transition from the past of which we are so proud of to the exciting future that awaits our country," remarked Rubio.

Outside the event, more than a dozen protestors gathered with a bullhorn and signs to criticize Rubio for his stance on immigration. "We need to ensure that the 2016 candidate is a pro immigrant candidate, and that, if Marco Rubio ever wants the Latino vote, and that if he wants the backing of our immigrant community, he's going to need to step up for our community," said Deyanira Aldana, a protestor who traveled to the event from New Jersey.

Rubio concluded his remarks by thanking his supporters and asked for their vote in 2016. "That is why I ask for your help and support so that together, this generation of Americans can see to it that the 21st century will also be an American century."
