Dog dies in Plainfield SUV crash

PLAINFIELD — A car crash left heavy vehicle damage and a dog dead in Plainfield Saturday, police said.

Officers say the woman was driving on Route 12 when she veered off the road, hitting a mailbox and a tree before the car stopped down an embankment.

A Good Samaritan who was near the crash helped the woman out of vehicle around 7:30 p.m.

Police said the dog in the passenger seat of the Hyundai Santé Fe died in the crash.

The driver was transported to William Backus Hospital in Norwich for possible injuries.

Witnesses told police she was driving at a high rate of speed and swerving before the accident.
