WOLCOTT - Crews responded the scene of a school bus crash on Todd Road in Wolcott on Monday afternoon around 2:40 p.m.

The bus was coming from Tyrrell Middle School when it hit a tree. The bus was carrying special needs students, the Associated Press reported.

Three students and a bus monitor were transported to the hospital. One of the students and the bus monitor sustained serious injuries. Three of those injured were treated and released Monday night. The fourth, a young boy, was helicoptered to Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

Wolcott police said the bus driver told them in a preliminary interview that another car came towards the bus so he swerved and hit the tree.

Police will analyze the evidence they collected at the scene, check the bus's mechanics and likely subpoena the driver's phone records to verify the driver's version of events.
