HAMDEN–It took seven months, but police have made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run.

On October 30 Doris and Emilio Gonzalez were crossing the street on their way home from a package store when they were hit by a car, just one block from their home.

Doris, who helped her husband of 46 years with his duties as deacon at a local church in New Haven, was killed in the crash.

After a long investigation, police applied for an arrest warrant, and on May 27 Hamden Police arrested Akinei Burrus, 38, of New Haven, in connection to the crash on Dixwell Avenue, near Haig Street.

Burrus is charged with felony evading responsibility. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is due in court again on June 22.
