HARTFORD – The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of a structure fire that occurred at 169 Sigourney Street early Wednesday afternoon.

Upon arriving on scene, crews were met with fire on the third floor of a 3-story 34-unit apartment building.

The occupant of the apartment was found in the hallway and carried to safety, according to fire officials. The 22-year-old woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital and is listed in serious condition due to smoke inhalation.

Another tenant was removed by ladder and she was treated at the scene, according the the fire department.

The fire was extinguished within minutes.

Officials said 13 families have been displaced, and are being relocated with the assistance of the Special Services Unit, American Red Cross and the City of Hartford Health and Human Services Department.
