BUFFALO – A flight from Chicago to Hartford was diverted to Buffalo when  a passenger had a medical emergency.

Southwest Airlines said Southwest Flight 2494 left Chicago Midway and was headed to Bradley when it was diverted to Buffalo Niagara International Airport Wednesday night. The airline said the crew made the decision to land because a passenger needed medical attention. Emergency crews met the flight on the ground.

Airline officials said the plane was on the ground for about an hour. They did not know what the emergency was or the condition of the passenger.

The flight was scheduled to depart at 9:55 p.m. CDT but was delayed until 11:17 p.m. CDT due to bad weather. The plane landed in Buffalo at 1:55 a.m. EDT and left at 3:05 a.m. The plane landed in Windsor Locks at 3:56 a.m.

In April, a United Express flight from Chicago to Bradley made an emergency landing in Buffalo when several passengers got sick.
