HARTFORD - It's the third most common public health problem behind arthritis and heart disease - 48 million Americans live with some type of hearing disability.
On Saturday, the 10th annual walk for hearing was held in Hartford.
Some proceeds from this event go to the American School for the Deaf in Connecticut, to buy new technology and invest in new programs. Some proceeds go to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness on a national level and help the cause in other ways.
Corrine Walters has two deaf sons who can hear with cochlear implants. The Walters family found families like theirs to make friends with at the walk for hearing.
The walk for hearing is a great opportunity for people who work with the deaf to connect.
Tracy Tuss is a UConn student and her field is speech pathology and audiology. Three years ago she came to the Walk for Hearing as a participant and now she's a committee member.
