HAMDEN – Two people were seriously hurt Sunday morning when a wrong-way driver crashed head on with another vehicle on Route 15 in Hamden.

Police responded around 3:30 a.m. to the southbound side of Route 15, also known as the Merritt Parkway, between the Heroes’ Tunnel and exit 60.

The traffic was light, and the weather was clear when the driver traveling south on the southbound side was hit by a driver headed straight for her, in the wrong direction.

Police say there were serious injuries from the accident, and both drivers were sent to Yale New Haven hospital for treatment.

The Merritt Parkway is a divided highway with a metal barrier between the north and southbound lanes, so it is unclear how this accident happened.

Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 203-393-4200.
