HARTFORD–Police have announced that they are charging the man who was shot by a Hartford Police officer last week.

On Tuesday, June 9 police received a call reporting there was a disturbed man on Andover Street.

When officers arrived a foot chase ensued, and officers eventually noticed that the man was holding at least two knives. Once the officers cornered the man in a driveway, he is said to have lunged at one of them with the knives, at which point Officer Tyrell Jenkins fired his department-issued gun three times.

The man, who has been identified as Tyrinde Thompson, 22, was shot once in the torso and once in the arm. He is currently healing in the hospital.

On Thursday, June 11 an arrest warrant was obtained for Tyrinde Thompson, charging him with criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree and carrying a dangerous weapon. Bond was set by the judge at $350,000.

Police are waiting to serve the warrant until Thompson physically recovers more from his injuries.

The department, State Police, and other agencies continue to investigate the incident to see if the shooting was warranted.
