WALLINGFORD — Monday morning, around 7:20 am, the Wallingford Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of a tree falling onto a school bus in the area of 9 Laurelwood Drive.

A Durham School Bus was traveling east on Laurelwood Drive when a tree fell directly in front of the bus, causing the bus to strike it. At the time of the incident there were heavy rains and strong winds.

The school bus was picking up middle school students and 20 students were on the bus when the accident occurred. One of the students suffered a minor injury as a result of the impact. The student was transported to Midstate Medical Center in Meriden by the Wallingford Fire Department for evaluation.

The Department of Public Works responded to cut the tree so the bus could be removed and the roadway opened.

The bus suffered damaged to its front end and undercarriage, and had to be removed from the scene by a wrecker.
