NORTH BRANFORD -- Three Connecticut fathers are not exactly sweet on the glut of sugary drinks that they see kids consuming, so they are doing something about it.

Bob Leary, Casey Hoban and Peter Dacey, all from Guilford, have joined forces to create what is known as Trimino, a protein-infused water.

The three say they were sick of seeing their kids drink soda and sports drinks, so the alternative they created is water that has 7 grams of protein and vitamin B, no caffeine or sugar, only has 28 calories per serving. Instead of sugar, a "small amount" of Splenda is used to sweeten the drink, according to Trimino's website.

"This isn't a product for weightlifters, it's a product for what I call normal people," said Bob Leary, who is a father of four.

Their Connecticut-made concoction is now in 400 stores across Connecticut and in 3,000 other stores in 21 states. You can find where to buy it with this map. You can also buy it online.

Hoban said, "It's a healthy alternative to all the sugary drinks on the market today."

Trimino hit store shelves in February 2014 and now is offered in four flavors: strawberry lemonade, mixed berry, coconut pineapple and peach.

And if you're interested, the "mino" in "Trimino" represents the amino acids in protein, while "tri" represents the three things that Trimino claims to do for your health: boost your metabolism, curb your appetite and naturally increase your energy level without caffeine.

"I think we have established a category," said Dacey . "The concept of a protein drink came up and I thought it was a great idea."

The company warehouse is in North Branford, while the bottling of the drink is done in Union, New Jersey.
